Support/Endorsements from the Live Free Collective - Justicia 4 Migrant Workers/No One Is Illegal Vancouver

The Live Free Collective has endorsed two call outs for support which we are encouragig members and individuals to follow up on as well.

First, we have answered the call for support for transportation to the Justicia 4 Migrant Workers event “Remembering the Dead, Standing Up For the Living” on July 22nd in Kitchener-Waterloo. The event commemorates the 6 month anniversary of the tragic Hampstead accident wherein 9 migrant workers lost their lives. You can read the call out for support here. Organizers of the event include 2 workers who survived this accident and they are asking for support in: organizing groups to attend the march, providing rides or financial support for rides, demanding action to protect migrant workers, sending messages of solidarity, endorsements, help with promotion and donations. We stand with our comrades in CUPE 4207 and are endorsing this event, sending members, and offering rides to those who need them in the Region. We call on our members to do what they can to answer this call and to stand up for the memory of the 9 workers who lost their lives and for the thousands of other migrant workers in our communities who face unsafe work practices, no chance of status, exploitative fee systems, exclusion from entitlements and the constant thread of deportation.

A week after this event, July 28th, in collaboration with CUPE 4207 we will also be holding an all day fundraiser for Justicia 4 Migrant Workers organizer Eloid Drummond as he currently has a separated shoulder and no medical coverage.

Second, we join again with CUPE 4207 in answering the call for support from No One Is Illegal Vancouver who are organizing to provide support funds for land defenders in order to ensure access to the 3rd Annual Unis’tot’en Action Camp against proposed and approved mining and pipeline projects will be held in Wet’suwet’en territory. The Live Free Collective working group - Friends of Kanonhstaton - is sending a cheque of $50 and CUPE 4207 is following that with a cheque of $200. We believe this work to be at the front line of many issues facing our communities and support the efforts of No One Is Illegal - Vancouver in breaking down barriers to access. These struggles against destructive and exploitative practices will impact future generations and we encourage members to provide added financial support if they can.
